Downtown Days: Madison, GA
I am a sucker for a historic downtown. buildings with character. antique shops. junk shops. hand dipped icecream. local pizza. plants on every corner. That's my kinda place.
Weve recently driven through and attended a wedding in Madison and we both fell in love.
So we made it a date. we went around lunchtime on a Saturday to ensure the shops were open.
We had lunch at an adorable local café, Perk. It was rated number 1 on Trip Advisor. I had a Turkey Panini and Terrell had Chicken Salad, a southern staple. The food was great, the service friendly and the atmosphere cozy. There was even a Sundae Bar...swoon.
We toured the restored schoolhouse and art gallery in the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. Look at those chalkboard walls, the beautiful maps and globes. Perfect example of trends repeating themselves. And to think they decorated this room a couple hundred years before Pinterest was around...
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering in and out of shops, taking pictures and buying these gorgeous earrings for $5! Steal.
I feel like life slows down, we enjoy eachother, people are friendly and history is not forgotten in these towns.
We plan on making some more trips back here to catch a festival in the fall maybe.
What is your towns downtown like? Ours is the best in Athens, so don't try to one up it ;)
