Heart Garland
Hello there! SO, if you havent seen pictures of our dining room that looks like a sunroom because it has AWESOME, HUGE windows, then I'm telling you we have really big windows. I LOVE the giant windows....but sometimes when I look at them, they are really plain and boring. So I decided to find a way to brighten them up and I am loving the new garland trend that is raving through Etsy. So, I decided to make my own! I lost pictures of the process in the midst of my computer death match (in which my computer won, it won by dying, but still, it beat me) but I'll do my best to give you a quick description. If this seems like too much work, no worries, this will be a featured item in This Handmade Circus's Etsy (COMING SOON!!), so be on the lookout!
Giant Windows!
Oh, the artsy shot :)
Here's a quick how-to:
Gather your favorite fabrics, cut out a heart template out of paper the size you want your hearts to be, then trace (I used chalk) the heart shape onto the fabric and cut them out!
Then arrange them into the order you like, I am incredibly OCD and rearranged them a million times. Then I experimented with a few different types of starches because I noticed that they were kind of floopy. I finally settled on the good ole grocery store spray and iron starch! I did 2 coats of the starch for safe measures.
Then I experimented with different stitches. Hand stitching was definitely the cutest....but took FOOOOR-EEEE-VERRR (said in your best Sandlot voice). So I moved onto the sewing machine and played with some different fancy stitches and just stitched the sides, instead of stitching all the way through. In the end you really can barely see the stitching, so whichever you prefer is fine!
I hope you enjoy! Dont forget to Become a Carnie, over on your right, to receive lots more awesome tutorials and ideas and well, because being a Carnie is Awesome (with a capital A)!
